Physical Work Is Our Medicine: The Power of Effort
Modern life often suggests that physically demanding, dirty, and exhausting work should be avoided. We see the irony: people will spend time and money at a gym, yet actively steer clear of hard physical effort in their daily routine.
We reject this notion. For us, the hard physical work required for sheep farming - jumping yards, lifting grain, walking thousands of steps while drenching, is a core element we love. Physical work is our medicine. It is an opportunity to keep moving, build strength, and challenge our own capabilities. There is no gym session that can replicate the different movements and strength we undertake every day.
The profound satisfaction of finishing a hard day tired, with muscles aching, is a good kind of ache. This feeling comes directly from completing meaningful work, and it is a powerful force for the soul. We shouldn’t fear hard physical work; it isn’t punishment. It is what builds capability, strength, and pride, allowing us to quiet our worries and ground us in the present.
